Developed in response to market demands for greater GPS accuracy, GARMIN's GBR 23 receiver corrects for atmospheric error, enabling an accuracy of 1-5 meters.

The GBR 23 is a remote, auto-tuning, differential beacon receiver with a built-in H-field antenna. The perfect companion to any GARMIN GPS receiver, the GBR 23 provides position correction data to all GARMIN differential-ready, marine, and recreational GPS receivers, including select products made by other manufacturers.

The GBR-23 is a replacement product for the current GBR-21.
The GBR 23 is essentially the GBR 21 receiver with a built-in H-field antenna, providing you with maximum flexibility and minimum setup requirements. Traditional ''E-field'' whip-style antennas (such as the GBR 21) can be extremely difficult to ground properly. The GBR 23 uses an internal ''H-field'' antenna that guarantees simple installation. GARMIN's GBR 23 helps to reduce the effects of ionospheric variations, improving the accuracy of the GPS unit to approximately 1-5 meters. The waterproof GBR 23 mounts to a standard 1-inch, 14 threads-per-inch mount which can be easily install to your vessel.

The GBR 23 uses the differential GPS corrections broadcast by the U.S. Coast Guard and the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities' beacons (283.5~325 KHz), which are supplied free of charge to mariners. These signals provide satellite status and pseudo-range information, in addition to the location and status of the beacon transmitter. The GBR 23 then decodes this information for use by a GARMIN GPS receiver, providing the improved repeatability and accuracy required for commercial applications and precision navigation.

DIFFERENTIAL GPS (DGPS) EXPLAINED:
This unit is used to improve the accuracy of your position by decoding the Coast Guard differential GPS corrections and sending them to your GPS receiver. All Garmin units are designed to be able to use these corrections. Accuracy improves to about 1 to 5 meters (4 to 16 feet).

The unit receives the coded transmissions which are broadcast free of charge by the US Coast Guard Differential Beacon Receiver Transmitters located throughout the USA and other parts of the world. You must be in range of a coast guard transmitter for the GBR 23 to work. A listing of locations of US Coast Guard transmitter sites can be found by clicking here. INSTALLATION:
These units come with a power/data cable which plugs into the GBR23 at one end and has bare pigtail wires at the other end. You are required to manually wire the power in to the unit and the data out to the receiving GPS unit. In most cases we recommend that you purchase the corresponding power/data cable for the host GPS receiver you are using as you will need it in order to complete all the wiring connections.
